Funeral Home Therapy Dog Puts Smiles On Mourners Faces

Meet Lulu the funeral comforter dog

Meet Lulu a funeral home therapy dog that is the newest staff member at the Ballard-Durand Funeral & Cremation Services in White Plains, New York.

Lulu a Goldendoodle is a certified therapy dog that has become known as being an expert at giving comfort to those in mourning.

She has an uncanny knack for knowing who needs her and makes her way over to them.

No one is really at ease at a funeral, but with Lulu in attendance mourners tend to relax at least a little, and some can even be seen with smiles on their faces, particularly the children.

President/Director of the Ballard-Durand Funeral & Cremation Services, Matt Fiorillo is amazed how Lulu can offer support in a way no human can.

The idea to get a dog for the funeral home came about when Matt and many other travelers where delayed due to various cancelled flights.

At this time a lady walked through the airport with a dog she was travelling with.

The sight of the dog instantly calmed the stressed travelers.

Matt noticed how powerful this was and set about getting a dog for the funeral home.

Lulu has an incredible knack for knowing who needs comfort and who doesn’t.

Lulu Is Praised By Many Clients

Lulu is available on request from families.  She can greet mourners at the door or mingle.

She is on a leash most of the time with a staff member (unless she is requested to mingle), and has her own designated area with food and water if anyone feels uncomfortable with her presence.

Many clients couldn’t praise Lulu enough, and often visit days, weeks and even months later to connect with Lulu again.

Lulu knows when her vest goes on it’s time for work, and when the vest comes off she is just another dog.
